Who We Are and Where We Are

****Due to the coronavirus situation, all regular meetings are postponed until further notice.****

The English-Speaking Club of Malaga (ESCM) is a social club that was founded in 1971 by nine friends of various nationalities living in Malaga City. This circle of friends grew over the years and continues to attract interest from international expatriates and Spaniards who want to socialise, with English as the common language. The focus of the club is to get to know and understand other cultures, to learn and exchange Spanish and English languages, and to share social relationships in a friendly and respectful atmosphere.

Club meetings are held from October to June twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. Tuesday meetings are held in English and include organised presentations on a particular topic. Friday meetings are held in a mix of English and Spanish, without a presentation, in an informal atmosphere.

  • TUESDAYS:   6 to 8 PM (18-20H).  We have two different locations that are opposite each other.  If we are not at one place, we will be at the other.  The prime location is Bodega Bar El Pimpi, Calle Granada 62, Malaga.  We will be on the main floor in Sala Antonio Gala or on the first floor in Sala Antonio Banderas.  Occasionally the other location is across the street from El Pimpi at D'Platos Restaurant, Calle Granada 51, First Floor.

  • FRIDAYS:   6:30 to 8:30 PM (1830-2030H) at Hotel Ilunion, Paseo Maritimo Antonio Machado, 10, Malaga

The club is run by club members who are volunteers, elected by other club members in the May annual general meeting.  Committee positions are open to all club members.  Activities of the committee include chairing meetings, planning the agenda for Tuesday meetings, maintaining a membership list, emailing members, attending committee meetings, as well as organising the annual Christmas lunch and annual summer club anniversary lunch.

If you are interested in the club, please just show up to one of our meetings.  Membership is free and all nationalities are welcome.  We hope to see you!
