Who We Are and Where We Are

The English-Speaking Club of Malaga (ESCM) is a social club that was founded in 1971 by nine friends of various nationalities living in Malaga City. This circle of friends grew over the years and continues to attract interest from international expatriates and Spaniards who want to socialise, with English as the common language. The focus of the club is to get to know and understand other cultures, to learn and exchange Spanish and English languages, and to share social relationships in a friendly and respectful atmosphere.

Club meetings are usually held from October to June twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays - except public holidays. Tuesday meetings are held in English and include organised presentations on a particular topic. Friday meetings are held in a mix of English and Spanish, without a presentation, in an informal atmosphere.

Tuesday meetings are from 6 to 8 pm at St George's Church, at the English Cemetery, Avenida Pries 1.  Entry is between 6 to 6.15 pm only.  Each person pays €2.

Friday meetings are at the ICON Hotel Malabar in Soho, Calle Tomas Heredia 11, in the cafe area from 7 to 9 pm.  Each person needs to buy at least one beverage/drink.

The club is run by club members who are volunteers, elected by other club members in the May annual general meeting.  Committee positions are open to all club members.  Activities of the committee include chairing meetings, planning the agenda for Tuesday meetings, maintaining a membership list, contacting members, attending committee meetings, as well as organising the annual social events.  These annual events include Christmas Drinks, New Year's Lunch and Summer Lunch.

Membership is free and all nationalities are welcome, with English as a common language.  We hope to see you!
